Shrnutí:The article presents a numerical study of the effectiveness of reducing pressure and thrust pulsations in the bow thruster due to two technical measures: rounding the entrance to the tunnel and using a protection grille of a new design. The study involved the methods of turbulence modeling RANS and hybrid RANS/LES, as well as the Objective Genetic Optimization Algorithm. A significant decrease in the separation zone at the tunnel entrance, a decrease in the volume of the cavity and, associated with these two processes, a significant decrease in pressure and thrust pulsations have been documented. This indicates the possibility of a significant reduction in acoustic emission and vibration due to the passive flow control methods proposed. •High-fidelity CFD simulations using hybrid methods.•Optimization of bow thruster grille and entrance.•Substantial reduction of thrust fluctuations and pressure pulsations.
