Zusammenfassung:The article reveals the nature of the relationship between Saint Philaret (Drozdov) and Chief Prosecutor Count N. A. Protasov. The author discloses the reasons for the emergence of vivid, but unreliable statements attributed to the Moscow Metropolitan. The history of Count Protasov's appearance in the synodal structures is covered, as an acting chief prosecutor and a temporary member of the Commission of theological schools. A significant place in the article is devoted to the synodal intrigue that led to the removal of Chief Prosecutor S. D. Nechaev from the post and the participation in it of Metropolitan Seraphim (Glagolevsky) of St. Petersburg, Archbishop Philaret (Amphiteatrov) of Kazan, Count A. Kh. Benckendorff and A. N. Muravyov. The joint activity of N. A. Protasov and the Moscow Metropolitan in the publication of the "Book of Rules of the Holy Apostles, Holy Ecumenical and Local Councils and Holy Fathers", which replaced the Kormchaya Book in the Russian church tradition, is revealed. The article also draws attention to the participation of Protasov and the Moscow Saint Philaret in spiritual and educational reforms. The opinions of Saint Philaret of Moscow in relation to the modernization of synodal office work and administration carried out by Chief Prosecutor Protasov are systematized. Particular attention in the article is given to the intrigue against the Metropolitan of Moscow in connection with the appearance of a lithographed translation of the Old Testament by Archpriest Gerasim Pavsky. Finally, the author reveals the nature of the relationship between the Chief Prosecutor and Saint Philaret after the removal of the Moscow Metropolitan from St. Petersburg.
