Summary:Background. The paper deals with the problem of modeling the transportation of passengers by rail, depending on the indicators characterizing the results of the functioning of the tourism industry. Materials and methods. To achieve the goal of modeling, a piecewise linear regression model with a minimum on the right side, also called the Leontief function, was applied. To improve the quality of approximation of the models, the method of transforming regressors was applied. The assessment of the adequacy of the obtained models was carried out by calculating the average relative error of approximation and the vector of operations. The initial data for modeling are obtained from official statistics showcases. Results. As a result of modeling, piecewise-linear models of passenger transportation by rail were obtained for the Russian Federation as a whole and for the federal districts. Conclusions. The obtained models are highly adequate and make it possible to identify the relationship between the performance indicators of the tourism industry and the volume of passenger transportation by railway.
