Description
Summary:The BRASS algorithm for the block-recursive generation of auditory spectrograms is described & illustrated by applications to synthetic glottal pulses & natural Finnish speech samples. The technique of frequency warping is used to transform uniform resolution Fourier analysis to a nonuniform auditory scale; the algorithm acts on an M-vector of signal samples at a given time index to generate an N-vector of ERB-rate-scale filterbank outputs & combines a recursion matrix & a spectral state control matrix. An auditory spectrogram of Finnish /ae/ is displayed for five glottal closures & openings, & an auditory spectrogram for the sentence memo paalle is displayed & segmented using the algorithm. 5 Figures, 7 References.
