Abstract (English): Colombia is considered the second most diverse country in terms of freshwater fish with 1616 species. The study of the reproductive and trophic activity of fish is fundamental to understand the ecology and biology of the species. The present review aims to provide an overview of the lethal and non-lethal methods used to evaluate the reproductive and trophic activity of fish, showing the advantages, disadvantages and opportunities of applying alternative methods to sacrifice in studies of populations of interest for conservation or endemic species.
