Entre recherche historique et esthétique théâtrale des jésuites, assimilation à la tragédie française et projection d’une scène idéale, Brumoy reconstruit un spectacle qui mêle dialogues et performance, dans un triomphe du spectaculaire dont l’ensemble du xviiie siècle français portera la trace. ; If the translations and analyses of Brumoy’s Theatre of the Greeks are first and foremost meant to make known, through reading, a general survey of Greek tragedies and comedies, they nevertheless sketch out an “imaginary stage performance” that can be considered as an essential landmark in the history of the staging of Antique drama. Between historical research and the theatrical aesthetics of the Jesuits, the assimilation of Antique drama to French tragedy and the projection of an ideal scene, Brumoy reconstructs a stage performance which, blending together dialogues and stage performance, winds up into a triumph of the spectacular that can be traced up throughout the French xviiith century. |
