Description: Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a historiografia acerca da escravidão em Mato Grosso no século XIX, com foco na região conhecida como Sant’Ana de Paranaíba, e também discutir sobre o papel da mulher escravizada nessa localidade. Salienta-se que Sant’Ana de Paranaíba estava distante dos grandes centros políticos e econômicos da época. Apesar da distância, a localidade estava inserida na sociedade escravista e na dinâmica imperial, principalmente nas intenções imperiais de conhecer e de “ocupar” o interior do Brasil. São poucos os documentos históricos que retratam o papel da mulher na sociedade de Sant’Ana de Paranaíba, e mais raros ainda aqueles que constam algo sobre as mulheres escravas. Utilizamos como fontes históricas Declarações de meia siza, cartas de alforria e a Lista do Fundo de Emancipação. ; This article aims to analyze the historiography about slavery in Mato Grosso in the 19th century, focusing on the region known as Sant’Ana de Paranaíba and also to discuss the role of enslaved women in that location. It should be noted that Sant'Ana de Paranaíba was far from the great political and economic centers of the time. Despite the distance, the locality was inserted in the slave society and in the imperial dynamics, mainly in the imperial intentions to know and to “occupy” the interior of Brazil. There are few historical documents that portray the role of women in the society of Sant’Ana de Paranaíba, and even rarer those that contain something about slave women. We used as historical sources Declarations of siza, letters of freedom and the List of the Fund of Emancipation.
