Popis: The valley of the Clarée river is located in the Briançonnais (Hautes-Alpes, France). Its climatic conditions (mountain climate with Mediterranean tendency), geomorphological context (presence of scree-covered slope, of an abundant morainic cover as well as sedimentary rocks sensitive to erosion like Triassic limestones and dolomites) combined with a topographic context characterised by the great energy of the relief are many elements which make it a sector favourable to debris flow activity. This study, based on various in situ and diachronic approaches of the alluvial fans and the torrential channels, made it possible to carry out a diagnosis of the current behaviour of the torrents of the low valley but also to study their evolution since the end of the 19th century. In fact, like elsewhere in the Alps, the torrents of the valley of Clarée have known for 150 years a change of their aspect marked by a contraction of their active channel on their alluvial fan. From a socio-economic point of view, the valley of the Clarée river remained a long time in margin of the economic progress which the neighbour winter sports resorts have known. However, for now about thirty year, the villages of the valley of Clarée have known a slow socio-economic change characterised by the emergence of tourism. The apparent steadying down of the torrential activity, combined with the increase in the land pressure, have favoured the progressive grading of the alluvial fans. However, in the context of the annouced Global Warming, that could have noteworthy consequences in the debris flow risk management. ; La vallée de la Clarée se situe dans le Briançonnais (Hautes-Alpes, France).
