Popis: Some studies suggest the genetic factor as a risk factor for severe periodontitis in young subjects. If the characteristics of periodontitis are well known, its family involvement is not predictable. The screening and management of various family members of a young patient with severe periodontitis is thus essential. We have established a consultation within the department of Oral Medicine (Henri Mondor Hospital) that combines periodontology and pediatric dentistry. This consultation has a dual purpose of care and research. In terms of care, its objective is to improve early detection (by convening family members) and periodontitis management (by improving family cohesion and setting up therapeutic education sessions) (cf thesis Clarisse Chen). In terms of research, its objective is to identify, from this cohort of families and the data collected, the part of genetic, microbial, nutritional and even emotional factors in the development of this pathology. To date, 27 families are treated in our department. For each, we tried to examine all members of the same family (at least parents and children) and to identify those with periodontal disease. In addition, we proposed some criteria for assessing family cohesion. This thesis takes a fresh look at periodontitis with family aggregation and their current management; then describes the principle of this consultation combining periodontology and pediatric dentistry, with its contributions and its limits; and finally presents three families that were treated.
