Popis: This diploma thesis aims to evaluate breeding of Australian Shepherd in the Czech Republic. In theoretical part of thesis, the origin and historical development of the breed is described as well as exterior and character traits and possible health issues, that can occur in this breed. There is also a description of the Czech breeding clubs, which are responsible for the Australian Shepherd breeding and the breeding conditions of each club. Selected cynological disciplines for which the Australian Shepherd can be used are also described here. Breeding data from 2002 to the present are analyzed in the practical part. This data includes the number of registered and imported individuals, the number of litters born, and the average number of puppies born in litters. The results of the data analysis show that the numbers of registered individuals and born litters are, with rare excpetions, increasing every year, the highest increase was recorded in 2021, when a total of 1405 individuals and 206 born litters were registered. The number of imported dogs varies every year, but the highest number was also recorded in 2021, when 27 individuals were imported to the Czech Republic from abroad. The average number of puppies born in a litter is 6.87. Furthermore, a questionnaire survey focused on owners of kennels registered under the ČMKU is evaluated in the practical part of the thesis. A total of 76 correctly completed questionnaires were obtained from the respondents, which were analyzed and graphically processed. The questionnaire was divided into several topical units including the motivation of breeders to acquire the breed, preferred characteristics of the breed, selection of breeding individuals, health examinations carried out during the breeding, conducting personality tests and docking of tails in puppies or parameters according to which breeders select future owners for reared puppies.
