Description: The diploma thesis deals with the newly developed garden types that are connected to public library services. The theoretical part conveys information about the role of contemporary public libraries, its community function and projects related to culture and education. The information about spatial arrangements of Czech libraries is also provided. The chapter addressing urban spaces draws attention to the particularities of small towns. Referential examples from the Czech Republic and abroad illustrate successful implementations of library exteriors and other cultural and educational institutions. The practical part presents formulation of principles for designing library exteriors. The thesis considers findings presented in the specialized literature as well as the author’s bachelor thesis on the topic Gardens of public libraries. For the architecture planning, the garden of the library in Nové Město nad Metují was chosen as a model object. The plan includes analyses of the given area and meets the requirements of the library management. The aim of the architectural design is to create an adjusted space in the garden, which would enable the library to expand its services.
