| Beschreibung: | Miščević’s 1988 book Radnja i objašnjenje (Action and Explanation) fits squarely within the Davidsonian approach to action theory that defined the 1980s. In it, he argues that the first phase of analytic philosophy of action—whose key figures include Ludwig Wittgenstein, Elizabeth Anscombe, and Georg Henrik von Wright—has come to an end, primarily due to its neglect of empirical research and its reliance on an a priori model of explanation. In response, he develops a robust realist theory in which core concepts are grounded in a firmly naturalistic framework. Since the 2000s, however, there has been a strong resurgence of interest in the Anscombean account of action, which Miščević did not engage with in his later works. In my talk, I will explore one of the central concepts of this approach—the notion of practical truth—and contrast it with Miščević’s realist perspective. |
