Popis: Passports issued in the territory of the Republic of Croatia have undergone significant changes in terms of security features, design, and printing techniques, in line with technological advancements and international standards. This study analyzes the development of Croatian passports through five key documents: the passport of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1985, the first passports of the Republic of Croatia from 1992, its 2000 iteration, the biometric passport introduced in 2009, and the most recent Croatian passport from 2015. Key security features such as watermarks, fluorescent inks, kinegrams, electronic and biometric data, and elements visible under ultraviolet and infrared light were examined. The aim of the research is to identify which security features were present in specific time periods, how they evolved over time, and how they responded to the prevailing security needs and international standards. Through comparative analysis, the paper provides a historical context for each document, linking passport development with the evolution of statehood, digitalization, and growing demands for identity protection and fraud prevention. This chronological analysis offers valuable insights into the technical and institutional development of personal identification systems in Croatia over the past forty years.
