| Description: | In this article, the ceramic object in the Viceroyalty of New Granada is analyzed as a social agent that interacts with people and objects within the realm of material and visual culture. By studying the variety of forms and uses of colonial ceramics, one can observe the network of meanings constructed around their functions, as well as the perception and reception they generated within society. Through an analysis of ceramics as things, and their functions as utilitarian objects, symbols of prestige, sources of knowledge, and tools of control, one can see the levels at which these objects operated to consolidate and build a local identity. |
