Beschreibung: There is a growing awareness that the current, almost total domination of cities in the world is an expression of a new stage of human civilization. “Complete urbanization”, “planetary urbanization”, “post-rurality”, “post-metropolitan” and “post-urban world” are some concepts being used to describe this emerging era. This paper aims at 1) form a synthesis of this broad literature, which in each area mark major changes but taken together form component parts of a fundamental transformation; and 2) based on an interaction-cost perspective, analyze the driving forces of the post-urban development. Based on this analysis, an agenda for further research is formulated.
