Description: The article deals with analyzing the methods of advancing unsupervised work of extramural department students on listening comprehension while teaching German as a second foreign language. Advantages and disadvantages of the teaching complex and the distance course prepared by the department of Germanic and Romanic Philology meant to organize effectively the students’ unsupervised work have been analyzed. The course structure takes into account the existing differences between full-time and extramural learning and assumes a complex and differentiated approach to teaching external students with regard to the principle of an individual educational pathway. The article has proved effectiveness of the podcast use in the process of unsupervised work to form students’ listening comprehension skills. Criteria for the selection of podcasts and the methodology stages of the work with podcasts have been determined. Organizing students’ unsupervised work with the help of distance learning means has been proposed as a way to solve the problem. The above involves mastering listening comprehension skills and effects positively the learning motivation in the process of learning German as a second foreign language.
