| Description: | This article is dedicated to clarify specific aspects of current relations between Russia and Central Asian states. The Central Asian re- gion has never lost its importance for Russia. Especially today, as the role and influence of other actors in the region grows, Russia needs to establish closer ties with the states of the region than ever before. Russia sees a number of promising projects in Central Asia for itself. In addition, Russia has always maintained close political ties with the countries of the region. Central Asian states also recognize Russia as one of their most significant partners. The states of the region have realized how important Russian cooperation is for them, and they are trying to act within the framework of these perceived interests. By virtue of Russia’s long-term influence in the region, its constant impact on Central Asia during and after the Soviet era, as a legitimate successor of the Soviet Union, has tied Central Asian states to Russia in many ways. Therefore, the Central Asian states cannot deny Russia’s impact in the region today, and they rightly discern the need for Russia in the region. At the same time, there are a number of problems that hinder the development of relations between Russia and Central Asia. And, the ongoing situation requires the parties to provide each other with new projects and opportunities. |
