| Popis: | This study explores how the cork production system has shaped the landscape and everyday life in the municipality of Cassà de la Selva. It approaches the subject through an integrated lens that connects territory, architecture, and collective memory, with a particular focus on the lasting imprint left by the cork industry, from the forest to the factory. Using a methodology that combines critical cartography and multi-scalar analysis, the research highlights how this industry has influenced urban morphology, historical paths, infrastructure, and the shared imaginaries of the local community. The aim has been to understand the cork landscape not merely as a remnant of the past, but as a living heritage with cultural value and transformative potential. The study identifies both the material and immaterial traces of this productive system and proposes strategies for its preservation and reactivation from a contemporary and holistic perspective. Throughout the cartographic analysis, a clear need emerged for specific tools to read and represent these often-overlooked territories within academic research. The findings suggest that the cork landscape can, and should, be recognised as a dynamic cultural structure, where natural, social, and economic values are intertwined. Revitalising this landscape may become a key driver for sustainable development and the reinforcement of local identity. Moreover, the methodology developed in this project could be applied to other local contexts with similar productive systems. Ultimately, the study reclaims cork not only as a raw material, but as a territorial framework a living heritage capable of generating identity, and knowledge. Aquest treball explora com el sistema productiu del suro ha configurat el paisatge i la vida al municipi de Cassà de la Selva. Ho fa des d’una mirada que entrellaça territori, arquitectura i memòria col·lectiva, posant èmfasi en la petjada que la indústria surera ha deixat, i encara deixa, en l’entorn, des del bosc fins a la fàbrica. Mitjançant una metodologia que combina la cartografia crítica i l’anàlisi multiescalar, es posa de manifest com aquesta activitat ha donat forma a la morfologia urbana, als camins, a les infraestructures i fins i tot als imaginaris compartits per la comunitat. L’objectiu ha estat entendre el paisatge del suro no només com un testimoni del passat, sinó com un patrimoni viu, amb valor cultural i potencial transformador. S’han identificat els seus rastres materials i immaterials, i s’han proposat accions per preservar-lo i activar-lo des d’una visió contemporània i integrada. A través del procés d’anàlisi cartogràfica, s’ha constatat la manca d’eines específiques per llegir aquests territoris, sovint marginals dins la recerca acadèmica. Les conclusions apunten que el paisatge surer pot, i hauria de, ser reconegut com una estructura cultural dinàmica, on se superposen valors naturals, socials i econòmics. La seva recuperació i posada en valor pot esdevenir una palanca per al desenvolupament sostenible i el reforç de la identitat local. A més, el mètode utilitzat en aquest estudi pot ser aplicable a altres contextos amb sistemes productius similars. Es reivindica així el suro com a estructura organitzadora del territori, i com a patrimoni viu amb capacitat de generar identitat i coneixement. |
