Abstract: The article discusses the scheduling of multipurpose batch plants (MBP) through an approach that employs unit-slots rather than process-slots in shared resource management. Models are proposed to permit the non-simultaneous transfer of materials in and out of batches, resulting in better schedules. The importance of an effective modeling time method in a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is examined. It also shows how the approach uses fewer event-points than those that are needed for the latest unit-specific event-based model.
