This study evaluated the influence of enzyme load and solids load on the hydrolysis of green coconut fiber (GCF), in addition to the production and use of lignosulfonate (LS) as a surfactant in the enzymatic hydrolysis process. Untreated and pretreated GCF were assayed in terms of contents of cellulose, hemicellulose, Klason lignin, and total ashes. The LS synthesis was carried out by sulfomethylation of alkaline lignin from GCF and FTIR characterization tests demonstrated the efficiency of lignin sulfomethylation. The production of sugars from enzymatic hydrolysis in the presence of LS was evaluated by varying the solids load (5.0, 10.0, and 15.0% w/v) and enzymes (10.0, 15.0, and 20.0 FPU/g), after pretreatment with steam explosion pretreatment followed by sodium hydroxide (2% v/v). Thus, the addition of LS in the enzymatic hydrolysis step was favorable since it promoted conformational stability between the enzyme and lignin. Therefore, it was possible to obtain more than 18.0 g/L glucose concentration at an LS concentration of 1.0% (w/w biomass). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
