Gas detection is critical in controlling industrial and vehicular emissions, household safety, and environmental health. This paper reports for the first time on the synthesis, characterization, and gas-sensing application of modified manganese-based oxides: MnSiO4, MnSiO4:Al2O5, MnAl2O5, and MnAl2O5:SiO2 fabricated as thick-film sensors. The synthesized oxides were thoroughly analyzed using XRD, FT-IR, SEM–EDX, and TEM to assess their crystallinity, phase purity, and nanostructured morphology. Their gas sensitivity against hazardous substances like CO, CO2, Cl2, NH3, H2, and H2S was evaluated under controlled conditions. Annealing at temperatures between 300 and 500 °C significantly enhances crystallinity and gas sensitivity by optimizing surface defects and active sites. Sensitivity, responsivity, and selectivity for NH3 and H2S in the best manner are shown for materials MnSiO4:Al2O3 and MnAl2O5:SiO2, as they get enhanced reactivity with a greater degree of the tailor-made electronic structure. This work allows doped manganese silicates and aluminates to be used as a low-cost, high-performance gas sensor for real-time air-pollutant monitoring. It sheds light on dopant effects and thermal treatments for tuning sensor efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
