This study proposed an approach for the integrated management of the design and construction stages of a plant project using building information modeling (BIM). Particularly, an algorithm that converts design into a construction model in a three‐dimensional (3D) BIM environment was developed and applied to a petrochemical plant project in Indonesia. The algorithm extracts 3D geometry and design attributes from Autodesk Revit and plant design management system (PDMS) models, incorporates construction‐specific information (such as work breakdown structure (WBS), weld types, and spool segmentation), and generates a task‐aligned 3D construction model in a structured JavaScript object notation (JSON) format. Using Navisworks, the system visualizes progress across work packages and supports partial updates when design or construction data changes. This represents a unique and fully integrated approach to automate the transformation of BIM design models into construction‐phase models, a capability that has not been demonstrated in previous studies. The proposed method enhances the utility of 3D models on the construction site by improving construction traceability, workflow efficiency, and real‐time management. While the current implementation supports Revit and PDMS models, future research will address multiplatform compatibility with tools, such as Hexagon SmartPlant 3D. This study represents an important advancement in BIM‐based construction modeling and offers a foundation for digital transformation in the construction industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
