This paper addresses the paucity of rankings of women in the economics profession by presenting citations-based rankings of women economists at national colleges and universities in the U.S. South. Based on total citations and two citations indexes – the h-Index and the g-Index – Maureen Cropper of Maryland, Catherine Eckel of Texas A&M, Nora Lustig of Tulane, Sebnem Kalemli-Ozcan of Maryland, and Katharine Abraham of Maryland consistently occupy the top ranks among women economists in the U.S. South. When the research impact of these and other women economists in the U.S. South is compared to that of their predecessors across the entire country, as in Medoff and Sov (1990), one gets a picture of the substantial impact of their academic research.
