Abstract: Technical norms (standards) play an important role in the modern world of norms and directives. The current phase of technological revolution is largely related to the development of artificial intelligence. Thus, there is a rapidly growing number of problems that can only be solved by means of technical norms. These circumstances also give rise to a plethora of highly complex legal and ethical issues. This article aims to explore some specific examples of the interaction between law and technology. It analyses the operation of courts and legal professions when they have to deal with artificial intelligence and its potential of being endowed with human legal status and manlike rights. The current and unique effort to enact the elaborate European Union Artificial Intelligence Act is also examined. The article finally highlights various risks and uncertainties arising from the new reality in which contemporary homo sapiens have to live. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
