Male African elephants, traditionally believed to be solitary, actually have complex social lives. Research conducted in Namibia's Etosha National Park reveals that male elephants form intricate social groups with rules, rituals, and hierarchies. These findings challenge previous assumptions and highlight the importance of understanding and protecting male elephant societies in the wild and in captivity. The study also uncovers vocal communication patterns among male elephants, shedding light on their social dynamics and leadership structures. [Extracted from the article] |
