Abstract: The author discusses a study by Richardson and colleagues on their bespoke instrumental variable (BSIV) approach to estimate the treatment effect in the treated under nonadherence. Topics discussed include the R and Python code for BSIV, how the variance can be estimated with the sandwich variance estimator, and reason that M-estimation is a valuable tool for epidemiologists.
