Abstrakt: This paper explores the evolution of Hezbollah following Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon. Initially established to counter Israeli aggression and occupation, Hezbollah transitioned into a significant political and military entity in Lebanon post-2001. The organization has gained prominence as Lebanon's leading political force, receiving substantial support from the Islamic Republic of Iran and adhering to the doctrine of Wilayat al-Faqih. Its transformation into a regional entity, coupled with a significant security role beyond Lebanon's borders, has been noteworthy. However, Hezbollah's dual existence as both a political party and an armed group has led to divergent perceptions internationally, with some Western governments labeling it a terrorist organization. The paper critically examines Hezbollah's historical trajectory and delves into the ongoing debate over its dual roles, highlighting the internal conflicts and national controversies within Lebanon due to the concentration of military power in the hands of a single party.
