Abstract: When environmental hardships and natural hazards confront communities, geoscientists create solutions, including: managing groundwater; securing sustainable food sources; preparing for earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, and tsunamis; reducing pollution; and saving unique, irreplaceable, and culturally valuable archaeological sites. Geoscientists' knowledge and technology allow them to deliver vital humanitarian relief to communities coping with global environmental crises. Scientists and their teams come together to solve critical challenges, collaborating with multidisciplinary experts, community leaders, and local partners, applying geoscience skills where most needed to build sustainability.
