| Abstract: |
The author discusses the challenges of building distributed computing systems. He observes that whereas non-distributed systems tend to fail in predictable ways that often have straightforward remedies, systems with two or more clients can be plagued by unpredictable problems whose solutions aren't obvious. Scaling up the number of users can create issues, he notes, as can upgrading to faster network hardware. He emphasizes a good record of network errors is vitally important to debugging a distributed system. |
