Rural health systems increasingly struggle to maintain a robust provider workforce to provide OBGYN Care. Supporting a diversity of disciplines, including family medicine and general surgery, to provide OBGYN care is an important path to rural workforce stability. Efforts to strengthen the pipeline of students and residents and the provide meaningful exposure to rural opportunities. In these models, OBGYNs can serve as teachers, coaches, and providers and consults for challenging cases. Additionally, major reform to health care compensation and malpractice is badly needed to provide stability to rural health systems.
