U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on 20 January 2025 to formally lead the United States to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement again. This move gives a far-reaching impact on the global climate governance system because the United States is one of the major producers of greenhouse gases. Although the Paris Climate Agreement itself does not impose mandatory obligations on non-parties, its landmark normative effect has penetrated into the global economic and trade, environmental protection and energy fields. For Chinese Taiwan, until now, the influences of sustainable development are not large. However, in the future, the corresponding influence of the sustainable development law to other laws will be posed challenges through changes in international norms, trade regulations, and the development of domestic law systems. It will also bring opportunities to promote this law reform. (Copyright © 2025 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.) |
