Abstrakt: The article discusses the distributed object technology software technique for collaborative work between disciplines and for easier data sharing processes. Topics include the definition of an integrated programming environment across computers, the VisAD system which uses distributed object technology to improve data sharing and collaborative applications with numerical data, collaborative computational steering, application programming interfaces (API), and the four basic kinds of objects used by application developers working within the VisAD Java class library system.
