| Abstract: |
This article examines the role of national parliaments (NPs) in EU Presidencies, focusing on the Czech EU Presidency in 2022. Using the analytical framework of Kaniok and Nováková 2023, this study integrates empirical analysis with theoretical insights to assess EU Presidency related parliamentary activities during the Czech mandate. Apart from empirically testing the Kaniok and Nováková framework, we also investigate whether the Czech parliament followed its roles in the EU affairs or whether the EU Presidency represented a change for it. Our findings suggest that the Czech Parliament primarily adhered to established roles, with one notable exception – an increased inter-parliamentary cooperation, going beyond the expected behaviour. This study contributes to the understanding of NPs in post-Lisbon EU politics and enriches the discourse on the parliamentary dimension of the EU Presidency, offering insights into the interplay between national legislative action and EU governance.
