The article focuses on a Vancouver couple, Clinton Cuddington and Monica Berdin, who built a carbon-neutral barn on Mayne Island by salvaging materials from an '80s home. After purchasing the property in 2019, they opted for a process called "unbuilding" to minimize waste, successfully reusing 75 percent of the original concrete foundation and incorporating salvaged materials from various sources into their new home. The completed structure features 32 solar panels, making it carbon neutral, and includes two outbuildings for Berdin's jewelry studio and guest accommodations. Cuddington views this project as a demonstration of sustainable design practices for his architectural firm, Measured Architecture. [Extracted from the article] |
