This study investigates the trade structure, competitive dynamics, and fragility of ASEAN’s goods trade using Harmonized System (HS) 6-digit data for 10 ASEAN economies and 110 trade partners from 2010 to 2023. The analysis employs export similarity and trade complementarity indices, alongside network-based methods, to assess product-level competitiveness and vulnerability. Results indicate that ASEAN exhibits strong trade complementarity, particularly in electronics and energy. The region’s trade network is dense and highly competitive, with central economies such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand playing a pivotal role. Post-pandemic, fragility has increased in sectors like telecom and semiconductors, with elevated exposure to cascading shocks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
