Abstrakt: The article looks at object-orientation (OO) as a tool for enterprise design. OO helps strategic planners to create fast-response and flexible business units. The goal of OO design is to identify the principle roles in an organization or process, assign responsibilities to each of them, and define the circumstances under which they interact with one another. The author feels that the Internet offers entrepreneurs new opportunities for innovative business design. A fundamental concept behind the OO firm is that it does not necessarily have to create a complete organization from scratch. The author uses OO concepts to explain the design of five dissimilar businesses: Calyx & Corolla, Amazon, John Deere's Frontier Equipment, Betfair, and Dell Computer.
