Abstract: Four new macroacyclic complexes derived from Cr(III)and Co(III)metal ions have been synthesized, using two bi-α-amino acid ligands (H2L1 and H2L2) which have been derived from two bi-α-amino nitrile compounds {2,2'-(1,2-phenylenebis(azanediyl))bis(2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)acetonitrile) and (2,2'-(1,2-phenylenebis(azanediyl))bis(2-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)acetonitrile}. The two bi-α-amino nitrile compounds were synthesized initially via three component-one pot reactions, and then converted to demanded ligands via basic hydrolysis under reflux. Na2L1 and Na2L2 were reacted individually with Cr(III)and Co(III)metal ions to produce [A1, B1, A2 and B2] complexes respectively. Complexes were characterized using conventional techniques of Fourier transformer infra-red FTIR, ultra violet visible UV/Vis,electron dispersive x ray EDX, and molar conductivity measurements, the four complexes were predicated to have octahedral geometry. The antibacterial activity of the complexes were evaluated in vitro against two bacteria strains, gram positive (Staphylococcus aurous) and gram negative (Escherichia coli) using diffusion method. Complexes were found to have beneficial result; due to the large inhibition zones effect against bacteria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
