In the evolving international political landscape of the twenty-first century, a vigorous debate persists over whether the global order is unipolar, bipolar, or increasingly multipolar. These discussions are often shaped by theories that prioritize what is most advantageous for US interests. While current evidence points toward a transition into an era of unbalanced multipolarity, there is limited indication that this shift necessarily undermines American strategic interests. Broadly speaking, discourse around multipolarity centers on two major trends: the waning influence of the United States in global decision-making and the concurrent rise of nations from the Global South. Nowhere is this transformation more visible than in Asia, where the ascent of China and India—along with assertive middle powers influencing regional dynamics—has significantly disrupted the Cold War–era framework of bipolarity. This reconfiguration of global power has profound implications for the Liberal International Order (LIO), challenging its institutions, norms, and underlying assumptions. This paper seeks to examine how the emergence of Asian multipolarity is reshaping the foundations and future trajectory of the LIO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
