Abstrakt: Neither a diplomat properly, nor a career-type of political activist, the late Argentinian footballer Diego Armando Maradona steadily played the role of a public diplomat. Rooted in his personal background and certain longstanding traits of the Argentinian national imaginaire, the most consistent stances of Maradona in public diplomacy characteristically unveil three components. The present research note aims to assemble the puzzle of Maradona's temperamental, dissenting, and consolatory entanglements with public diplomacy by identifying his agency with 1) a model in international branding, 2) the vocal defence of the 'Global South', and 3) the anti-establishment and 'anti-Caesar' propaganda against FIFA, the United States, and Great Britain, respectively. The goal of such an investigation is to critically assess the militance of the Argentinian footballer in public diplomacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
