Shrnutí:Any type of business that requires repetitive, accurate data entry could profit from bar code technology. The cost savings can be realized in terms of labor cost and inventory accuracy. A bar coding system consists of the bar code symbol, the laser scanner, and the decoder. The best bar codes are laser printed on high-quality label stock. Those printed with dot matrix printers are more affordable but of inconsistent quality. To determine whether investing in the technology makes sense, the following items should be considered: 1. the frequency of manual inventories, 2. the accuracy rate, 3. the method of data entry, 4. the handling of discrepancies, and 5. the number of employees and amount of time involved in conducting inventories. Bar coding is an affordable technology that provides a rapid return on investment. Because it allows small companies to do more with fewer or the same number of people, bar coding may be just the tool needed to compete in an increasingly competitive business environment.
