Femto- and picosecond pulse generation from a gain-switched laser diode by means of dispersion-imbalanced fibre loop

The generation of high-quality femtosecond and picosecond pulses from a directly-modulated DFB laser diode is demonstrated for the first time in a novel scheme incorporating a dispersion-imbalanced fibre loop mirror.
