| Abstract | This study presents a general bibliometric outline of the major logical advancements that have been published in "e-learning", since 1970. The bibliometric data were retrieved from the Scopus database. The review identifies the most cited, productive authors, and the leading institutions and countries of the journal, based on bibliometric indicators. The research hot spots in the period from 1970 to 2020 were identified by using the visualization of similarities software (Vosviewer), and the graphical mapping of the authors was developed to visualize networks between authors. A sum of 27979 publications was analyzed and the most compelling subjects covered by the journal were identified. This topics analyses e-learning research trend, forecast and citation approach by the locating components of "digital learning", "e-learning", "virtual learning", "mobile learning", "web based learning", "elearning" and "online learning" were identified as being most relevant. The bibliometric analyses and visualization maps indicate the significant evolution, growth of the journal in terms of publications, citations, scientometric performance and themes covered. The study provides a road-map for future researchers to follow, where they can focus on key areas where success is possible. |
