Description
Summary:One key hypothesis in limnology says that shallow lakes have two stable states: a turbid state and a clear one. One control parameter that governs the transition between these two states is the concentration of nutrients. This, in turn, is influenced among others by macrophytes. In the case of the Lake Mueggelsee, the expectation that the clear state will become established because the biomass of macrophytes is increasing has not yet come true. With the development of a mathematical model one wants to examine the reasons, together with a prediction which amount of biomass would be achieved under ideal conditions.
