Shrnutí:IBM's DB2 5.0 will include a GUI for administration, improved integration with TCP/IP networks, support for multimedia objects and Java and better parallel processing. The improved parallel processing will boost IBM applications on symmetric multiprocessing systems. DB2 5.0 employs intra-query parallelism and leverages multiple CPUs for parallel database loads. The new GUI simplifies many of the common database administration tasks. New tools include the Control Center, which manages database objects, and Visual Explain, a DB2 administration tool with a graphical display of SQL access paths. The Global SQL Cache maximizes SQL code sharing among users. IBM has not announced the pricing for version 5.0, it is scheduled for shipment in Sep 1997.
