| Abstract | Les forums de discussion sont une source d’information de santé et d’échanges. Ils peuvent être étudiés pour déterminer les besoins des patients et améliorer les pratiques des soignants. L’objectif de cette étude était d’identifier les besoins des patientes atteintes d’un cancer du sein à partir des messages postés sur un forum de discussion.
Les messages postés en 2021 sur le forum de la Ligue nationale contre le cancer (LNCC) concernant le cancer du sein ont été analysés de manière quantitative. Le contenu du message a été classé en trois catégories : témoignage, demande de conseil ou d’avis médical. Le ton du message (positif, neutre ou négatif) a été relevé. La temporalité de la maladie au cours de laquelle la patiente s’exprimait a été définie. L’analyse a été menée sur les messages initiaux à l’aide des tests du Chi2, Fisher et Kruskal-Wallis avec un seuil de signification<0,05.
En 2021, 640 messages initiaux ont été analysés. Les messages ont été publiés par 312 auteurs, dont 275 patientes et 37 proches. Trois principaux types de messages ont pu être identifiés : les demandes d’avis médicaux (n=339), les conseils (n=164), et les témoignages (n=137). Les demandes d’avis médicaux suscitaient moins de réponses que les témoignages (p<0,001). Un besoin en soins de support a été identifié dans 42,8 % des messages, concernant majoritairement une prise en charge sociale (17,3 %) et psychologique (13 %).
Notre étude a montré un besoin d’informations, concernant notamment l’impact social de la maladie ou les effets secondaires des traitements. La période où les besoins exprimés par ces patientes ont été les plus importants a été celle de l’attente diagnostique. Cependant, les patientes utilisant les forums de discussion ne sont pas représentatives de l’ensemble des femmes atteintes d’un cancer du sein et ces résultats ne doivent pas être généralisés à l’ensemble des patientes.
Forums are a source of health information and exchange. They can be studied to determine patients’ needs and improve caregivers’ practices. The aim of this study was to identify the needs of breast cancer patients based on messages posted on a discussion forum.
Initial messages posted in 2021 on the Ligue nationale contre le cancer (LNCC) breast cancer forum were analyzed quantitatively. Message content was classified into three categories: testimonial, request for advice or request for medical opinion. The tone of the message (positive, neutral, or negative) was recorded. The temporality of the illness during which the patient expressed herself was defined. Analysis was carried out on the initial messages using the Chi2, Fisher, and Kruskal-Wallis tests, with a significance level of<0.05.

A need for supportive care was identified in 42.8% of messages, mostly concerning social (17.3%) and psychological (13%) care.
Our study revealed a need for more information especially regarding the social impact of the disease and the side-effects of treatment. The period of greatest need of information was the diagnostic waiting time. However, patients using discussion forums are not representative of all women with breast cancer and our results should not be generalized to all patients treated for breast cancer. |
