The observed species in the mass spectrometer corresponds to the resting state of the catalyst. Data for the ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of norbornene by (Cy3P)2Cl2Ru=CHPh (Cy=cyclohexyl) are used to illustrate the method.
