Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) has evolved over the last decade to connect a massive number of objects. These connected objects provide a vast amount of services to enhance the daily live of end users. The services provided comprise other services with similar functionalities but different quality of service (QoS) requirements. Thus, the problem of selecting and combining services that match the required QoS constraints is challenging. Therefore, in this review, we classify, and analyze state-of-the-art algorithms for service selection under QoS constraints in the IoT environment. We propose a classification system to review and analyze the various state-of-the-art algorithms described between 2012 and 2020. The aims of this review are to provide the research community with guidance and knowledge, and to identify the trends regarding the different algorithms used to solve the service selection problem.
