Shrnutí:An updated version of Sanides’ hypothesis on the origin of tangential cortical expansion in two ancestral allocortical anlagen of reptiles and mammals incorporates the presence of four pallial sectors and provides a clearer explanation of cortical hierarchies. In this revised model, mammalian neocortical rings expanded within the lateral and dorsal pallial sectors, which were likely present in the common ancestor of marine and terrestrial vertebrates [10].
