Description
Summary:The formation of the TiAlN coating on Ti–6Al–4V alloy by combining the arc spraying and gas nitriding methods was investigated. The TiAlN phase is formed in the coating during gas nitriding of the titanium alloy with a pre-sprayed layer of aluminum and titanium. The content of the TiAlN phase decreased with the increase of nitriding temperature from 650 to 850 °C. The TiAlN coating significantly increases the surface hardness of the alloy (up to 12–15 GPa) and, in the tribo-pair with Al 2 O 3 , provides significantly higher wear resistance compared to the TiN coating and untreated alloy.
