Shrnutí:As language pedagogy evolves and the pressure to articulate the value of the humanities in undergraduate education mounts, new curricular models are needed more than ever. The course “Sustainability in Germany: Recreation, Education, Innovation” is a response to that need. Originally designed to include a short-term study abroad component, the course was transformed during the COVID-19 pandemic into a completely virtual learning experience. This article outlines pedagogical approaches and curricular materials for teaching students about sustainability in Germany in a virtual format. Designed to encourage intermediate- and advanced-level learners of German to apply their linguistic skills and cultural knowledge, this course puts sustainability education, intercultural competence, experiential learning, and language practice at its core.
